						About Us

The Moomau-Grant County Public Library system consists
of 2 locations, the main library located in Petersburg,
WV and our branch, Allegheny Mt. Top located in Mt
						Storm, WV.

Moomau-Grant County Public Library currently houses
approximately 45,000 titles. We have DVDs, audio books, magazines,
large print books, genealogy, reference books,
West Virginia books and videos. Thanks to donations,
the library has an extensive collection of books on the
Civil War and the Lewis and Clarke Expedition. The Grant
County Press (1896 - 1995) is available on microfilm.
The library offers services that include Copy, Fax,
Notary Public, four public access computers, 2 Workforce
WV computers and free Wi-Fi is also available for
Patrons with their own laptops, e-readers, tablets or
						other mobile devices.

The Grant County Public Library began in 1966 in the
conference room of the Potomac Valley Bank with about
355 donated books. Homemakers Clubs and volunteers
processed the books and kept circulation records. In
1968 Betty McCartney was hired as the librarian. In 1975
the library moved to the old Grant County Bank building,
						and in 1980 became incorporated.

In 1978 the Allegheny Mt. Top Public Library opened in
the old elementary school building, and in 1984 moved
into a new building in the Mt. Storm Community Park in
						Mt. Storm.

In 1986, the main library was in need of a larger
facility, and with money from the state and local
donations, which included land, the new building was
completed in 1990 and renamed the Moomau-Grant County
Public Library. The new building is of the Williamsburg
design and features a cupola, a children's room and a
history/genealogy room called the Browne Room (endowed
						by Carleton and Dorothy Browne).

The present library board consists of Cynthia Geary,
JoAnn Harman, Ann Harrison, George Ford and Patrick
						Flaugher.
